The basic truth of our belief is derived from the Holy Scriptures. God in His divine wisdom recorded for us His word so that we may read and refresh our understanding as well as fashion our lives in accordance to His word. The truths that we believe are taught throughout the Bible at times in the form of instruction, as commands, guidelines, and direct revelation or through the lives of people just like us. God’s truth is more effectively transmitted to us through the life of Jesus; therefore much of what we believe is demonstrated in the Life and Ministry of Christ.
In 1916 the early fathers of our movement through their diligent study formulated the 16 truths which are known as the Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God. These fundamentals are firmly based on the word of God which is the all-sufficient rule for faith and practice.
Four of the 16 doctrines are known as the cardinal doctrines. They are considered to be the major beliefs of the fellowship. Each describes a vital aspect of the gospel message provided for us by Christ. Note the following:
1. Jesus Christ is the Savior; Man’s salvation is totally provided for in Christ’s death.
